Whine Country Coopers
"Come Barrel with Us"
In January 2013, while having breakfast at the Classic Cafe in Dundee, New York, I got talking to fellow MINI owner Rob Louden about starting a MINI Cooper Club in the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY and he thought it would be a great idea. We started thinking about the area that we live in. We first thought to call it Wine Country Coopers, though wanted to stay away from the thought of drinking and driving. Then, Rob saw a fellow MINIac at the car wash in Penn Yan and when he drove away he heard a familiar sound "the Whine" of the earlier MINI Cooper S models. Rob told me the story and we thought it would be a good idea and in a way a play on words for our area Wine - Whine. So, Rob and I started the Whine Country Coopers in March 2013 and the club has grown to 64 members and is continually growing.
We are located in Dundee, NY, home to Yates County Speedway, Dundee Symphonic Steel Drum Band, the Awe-Jamatic Pancake Flipping Machine and the Dundee Scottish Festival, all right here in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region between Seneca and Keuka Lake.
We are planning interesting events, including scenic drives and get togethers for food and conversation. We will also take part in events with other MINI clubs, MINI of WNY in Buffalo, ROC City MINI in Rochester and TierMINI in Binghamton. In September 2013, we took part in a great event as the MINI was the Marque at the Glenora Wine Cellars US Vintage Grand Prix in Watkins Glen. In 2014 we participated in the MINI TAKES THE STATES rally San Francisco to Boston. We started in Buffalo.
Many of our members are knowledgeable about the MINI / Mini and enjoy sharing information about increasing the fun and reliability of the MINI. There is a lot of information out there about the MINI / Mini, and our club members love to gather as much of it as possible and share it with members through our website.
We have a Facebook page Whine Country Coopers We are dedicated to having fun with our MINIs, checking out the Finger lakes and meeting new friends.
Another great source for MINI info and a diverse collection of MINI owners from all over the world is, a group on Facebook called a League of Extraordinary MINIacs, check them out, Donald Bram has done a great job with over 8000+ members.
Whine Country Coopers is always looking for people to take a more active role in the club. If you would like to help or have a suggestion on an event, please let Craig know!
In the beginning of 2014, Rob got the chance to help start a club with MINI of Rochester, called ROC City MINI. He resigned his position with us and became the Co-President with ROC City. I would like to thank Rob for all his hard work and knowledge he shared to get our club running. Its always nice to see him at other events and share knowledge learned. I asked Pat to step into the open Co-President spot and she accepted
